“Some people call it making medicine – the process of following your heart, creating something magical, powerful, and fulfilling,” says Lisa Skyhorse of Skyhorse Saddles. That is what saddle making and leather working is to Lisa and Loren Skyhorse. The couple has focused their artistic efforts on riding saddles for over forty years now which makes them experts in their field.
The newest Skyhorse creation, The Buckaroos is just one of many saddles in their Collection series. All scenes were drawn, carved, tooled and hand painted by Lisa who is extremely grateful to famed western artist, Charlie Russell for two of the images. Every edge was braided by Loren using over 450 feet of kangaroo lace. The extraordinary sterling silver conchos were created by Sunset Trails silver company using dies from the 1920’s to form the different cowboy and longhorn conchos which complement Lisa’s beautiful tooling perfectly. There is not one machine stitch on the entire saddle and with over 500 hours of work, The Buckaroos is certainly a leather masterpiece.
